TRS - Richard Verschoor takes Toyota Series lead to Teretonga

#22 Richard Verschoor (NED – Giles Motorsport Tatuus Toyota)
Toyota Racing Series Championship position: 1st – 181 points – after 3 of 15 races

After a superb opening weekend in Ruapuna, the Castrol Toyota Racing Series is in the deep south of New Zealand this weekend at Teretonga near Invercargill and Red Bull Junior Richard Verschoor has the points lead.

The 16-year-old Dutchman put together an excellent 3rd, 2nd and 4th in his series debut in the Giles Motorsport Tatuus Toyota but knows it will take more than consistency to hold the advantage through the remaining four events.

Rain delays

A day of free practice at Teretonga on Thursday was disrupted by an early downpour. "Yes it was pretty weird and chaotic today," explained Verschoor. "It rained so hard we couldn't run until it cleared and then our track time was compressed so we had to change tyres and set-up in the pit lane."

"The track was actually dry when we got out and the first session went well, I was P3, then we changed tyres for what should have been a better set but they weren't. The team split different set-ups between the six of us so they could see what would work and I'm sure we won't be using the set-up I was running," asserted Richard with his usual broad smile. "I was well down and actually went off."

There is a plan

"Some of the guys were quick though so it's no problem, the team know where we are going with set-up for tomorrow, it might be wet so we'll see. It's probably not my favourite track, I like more, tighter corners and most of these are long, especially the one off the main straight, but still it's fun and it will be a great weekend."

Verschoor has just a three point lead going into the weekend and knows that making full use of more free practice on Friday will be crucial.
